Architectus won an international design competition for a premium grade development at Asia’s premier ski resort in Japan.

Located within Japan’s Niseko Grand Hirafu Resort area in Hokkaido, the project comprises 90 high-end luxury apartments, 4 ultra-high quality penthouses, a bespoke restaurant, ski facilities and a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Japanese Onsen.

As well as premium quality architecture and interior design the project will include a contemporary interpretation of the Hokkaido landscape.

An exceptionally high quality of materials will be incorporated to create an architectural experience that is fitting for its special location in the mountain landscape of Hokkaido. The extreme cold of the winters will inform the selection of elegant and durable materials best able to resist the wind-driven ice and snow. Locally sourced and fabricated materials, inclusive of glazed ceramics, will be utilised. These will be further explored during design development phases.

Working in a collaborative partnership with the client’s locally based Japanese architect – Koichi Ishiguro / ISA Architects, based in Sapporo, Hokkaido, the project will deliver an exceptional design response to the dramatic mountain landscape and snowfields of Hokkaido.
