505 George Street, Sydney

505 George Street, Sydney

The competition-winning design by Architectus and Ingenhoven Architects creates a signature tower that presents as a singular elegant form on the Sydney skyline with the vertical structure emphasizing height and slenderness while the curving facade addresses views in all directions.

At 270 metres, inclusive of a 10 metre roof feature, the mixed-use tower will be an iconic, environmentally and socially sustainable future-oriented development combining a vibrant ground plane with healthy high-quality living and state-of-the-future retail.

The 80-storey building will rejuvenate George Street’s entertainment precinct with new retail, community facilities, two childcare centres, high quality residential apartments and potential hotel.

The tower is highly integrated in the existing surroundings and offers a great public domain. This urban approach is based on the philosophy of a well-connected public and conceives of the tower as being a ‘friendly neighbour’. The combination of different uses and the timeless design of the building are integral parts of an environmentally sustainable approach but also expression of a deep understanding of the project goal.

The dynamism of the location is reflected in the ground floor building pattern and activated surfaces, along with a through-site link displaying public art. The improved public space activates and highlights the high permeability and porosity of the site.

Designed to achieve a 6 Star Green Star rating, special attention has been paid to energy use and environmental impact. The north-facing daylight optimised facade can be used as hybrid solar collectors, while intelligent cooling systems will be applied to the south-facing facade. All proposed facade and building materials have been chosen with respect to sustainability, durability and authenticity in order to create a timeless and “healthy” building.
