James Cook University Clinical Practices Building

James Cook University Clinical Practices Building

A vibrant student space has been created to foster interaction and collaboration between students and between staff and students.

The James Cook University Clinical Practices Building is the flagship project of JCU’s progressive plan to create a thriving Knowledge Community at its Townsville campus. The building draws on the synergies of JCU, The Townsville Hospital and the needs of a new residential community to create a mixed use hub.

The building conceived as a restrained (dry) tropical pavilion with shady edges and a wide overhanging roof, in a shady setting of street trees, screens and arbours. The south west and north west facades are veiled with screens of recycled hardwood, while the important street corner is marked with perforated metal screen evoking Brain Coral, a friendly acknowledgement of JCU’s leadership in tropical medicine and marine science.
