"The quadrangle development has had a significant effect on the culture of Carey and has supported the school's direction in fostering academic cross fertilisation."
Dr. Ross Millikan, Principal
One of the outcomes from the Master Planning exercise at Carey Baptist Grammar Senior School was the creation of an enclosed quadrangle between buildings in the centre of the site. Architectus' design ambition was to create a pre-tertiary setting for senior students, serving as a centre for social interaction and relaxation.
The quadrangle accommodates up to 750 students and staff and borders the canteen. As well as servicing the needs of students and staff during the normal day, the canteen has been designed to serve as an efficient and comprehensive reception centre and restaurant for evening functions.
The quadrangle enables different sporting clubs within the School to hold functions and offers various musical ensembles and rock bands the opportunity to perform to larger groups.
The informal nature of the space and its relationship with surrounding facilities supports the notion of independent learning.
